Adrianus VI was pope from 31 august 1522 until his death on 14 september 1523. From 1476 he studied at the University of Leuven. In 1490 he became priest and in this capacity was associated with the Great Beguinage of Leuven. In 1493 and from 1500-1501 he became dean.
